A mechanic is paid on average about $11,000 a year in Michigan, and that’s not including overtime pay or tips.
But the wage gap between the two is far larger.
In 2015, for example, the average salary for a mechanic in the state was $27,723.
The median wage was $28,922.
For someone working full-time, that’s a difference of $11.77 per hour, or about $4,200 a year.
It’s a stark contrast to the pay of most other professions, where most jobs pay about $10 per hour or more.
A new report shows that the wage gaps in mechanical engineering technology are even wider.
And the problem extends beyond just Michigan.
The National Association of Mechanical Engineering Technology Professionals released a report this month that found that in California, the median wage for a mechanical engineer in 2016 was $37,903, a far cry from the $46,979 average reported by the Automotive Mechanics Guild in Michigan.
And that’s only the tip of the iceberg.
The report found that the median pay for a technician is $40,942, and for a pilot, it’s $39,988.
In the states of Washington, Idaho, and Nevada, the pay gap was even wider, at $51,977.
That makes the pay disparities in these professions even more glaring.
“The pay gaps are really staggering,” said Mark Dannemann, a mechanical engineering tech who has been a member of the National Association for Mechanical Engineering Technologies since 2012.
“This is an area where you’ve got to pay attention and pay attention to the gaps.”
Danneten said he hopes the report will lead to changes.
“It’s really important for us to get our paychecks closer to parity, so we can have a more equitable workforce and a better quality of life for everyone.”
The report looked at the wages of 2,742 of the nation’s top 500,000 mechanical engineers.
The authors did not include data from other fields of engineering, such as electrical engineering or aerospace engineering.
The data covers the period from 2006 to 2017, but it’s important to note that this is an annual survey.
Dannettens job as a mechanic is not a job that requires a college degree.
He’s an entry-level mechanic who can start at the lowest level of service, then move up to the next level.
DANNETEN’S WEEKDAY PAYDAY The National Automobile Dealers Association has compiled a list of the top jobs in the U.S. by pay.
For instance, a mechanic makes an average of $20,200 per year.
But as of last year, the top earners were engineers who earned between $32,500 and $52,000, with technicians earning more than $54,000.
DANETEN WORKED FOR FAST TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND BANNER MUSEUM AT ANTI-COMMITTEE CURRENTLY IN MICHIGAN The Detroit News reported on Monday that a Michigan legislator wants to put a moratorium on the sale of banners to the National Football League and NASCAR, because they’re used by some to promote the game.
“You’re selling them to kids,” Rep. Chris Taylor, D-Detroit, told the newspaper.
“They’re not selling them as a billboard.
You’re selling it to an organization that is using banners to promote this sport.”
The newspaper also reported that a Republican lawmaker in New Mexico wants to limit the amount of ads that can be displayed on the state’s highway signs, citing “an increase in drug trafficking in that state.”
